Copywriting as a Job

Today I want to look at what copywriting as a job has to offer.

There are many benefits to having copywriting as a job. Firstly, the salary for a copywriter is a much higher wage than the average in the US and UK. In the US, according to the magazine Advertising Age, the average salary for a copywriter is around $60,000 when you include bonuses - and that was way back in 2005. Given the inflation in the last 2 years I'm sure you can imagine how much higher that income level will be by now.

Another of the bonuses to being a copywriter is that you have a lot more flexibility than you do in many other jobs. You don't need to worry about keeping to set hours, this is usually because the focus is on your ability to write good copy. As you can imagine, this gives you the freedom to plan events around the fact that you can make up time in the evenings, or perhaps put in more hours tomorrow if you need extra time today, etc. This is obviously something that many jobs, i.e. bank and restaurants, etc do not allow you to do.

Regarding your workplace - many copywriters find themselves working in advertising agencies - usually great places to work with fairly relaxed atmospheres, many creative people who all bounce ideas off each other, creating a high energy environment to keep your creative juices flowing. Advertising agencies are usually peopled with staff who are full of intelligence and creativity which creates a challenging working atmosphere.

Depending on your likes and dislikes you may prefer a smaller agency or a large International agency. The smaller the agency the closer you will find the group of staff, a larger agency will usually provide more competition.

Writing copy in an agency can be very challenging and doesn't often become boring, you will find that there will be many different types of clients, so your work will change daily - creating more interesting challenges.

No matter how you look at it, copywriting offers many great benefits:

  • You are able to make great money - the more established you are, the more you can make.

  • You will be working in a workplace full of creative energy.

  • Your job will allow you more flexibility than many other jobs.

If you want to find out more about becoming a copywriter, you can find out some great information from our product 'Write your way to Riches' which explores copywriting in depth and will get you started.

Copywriting for the Web - The Basics

Hey All - how are you holding up this week?

Are you like I was?

A bit lost when it comes to writing copy for a web page, blog or other?

Heavens, I didn't even know you had to write differently for a paper magazine, etc and web based items. I'll tell you, I've had to have a very quick education and still get it wrong all the time I'm sure. Oh well, as they say - 'You live and learn.'

I did find a great beginners ebook which taught me loads, and I'm sure it would be of interest to someone who was already involved in copywriting for the web as it is sure to have new info in it which can only be of help.

Here is an excerpt from the first chapter of the book - just to whet your appetite for more... :0)

The subject of the first chapter is 'Why Writing Copy for the Web is Different'

'....So anyone visiting your site for the first time who has found it via a search engine will have a few questions in mind. "Have I come to the right place?" also "Will I find what I'm looking for at this page or site?", and finally, they would be asking themselves "Do I feel that I can complete the task at this point?"

So what is vital is that you answer these questions in both your headline, and any sub-headlines you may have. It needs to be able to secure a response from this first time visitor immediately.

In order for this to happen, your writing needs to provide answers so that the visitor knows exactly what they are looking for.

What is important when writing any copy for the web is that you reassure any visitors they they are in the right place, and that they should continue to read on...'

The rest of the chapters cover subjects like :
  1. Visitors are Important to You
  2. Plan in Order to Succeed
  3. How to Write Effective Copy for the Web
  4. How to Find Effective Keywords and Keyword Phrases ... and many more.
If you are interested in finding out more information on this subject please
click here *. All the information on offer will help you to grow your Copywriting business - as well as any other online activities you may have on the go.

This information has certainly helped me and I want to help you out too.

Information on Copywriting for the Web + more *

* The information on offer covers more than just copywriting (which is covered in one of the free bonus downloads).
The balance of information on offer will only help you in your copywriting business.

Good luck

Ad Copy Secrets

So how is everyone now that the Festive Sillies are over and done with and all is back to normal...? It is hectic getting back to normal after 2 weeks of holiday and lazing around - at least in our house it is!

Well, I have been hard at work the last few days and have stumbled across a really great article which I just had to let you all have a read of. It is all about Ad Copy and 10 Great Secrets which you just have to know if you are wanting to get involved, or are already involved in writing copy.

Before I get onto the Ad Copy article, I have one more thing to tell you about - related to one of the free downloads that we are giving away - (if you don't have it, go get it here : http://viralurl.com/cosmicxpress1/Articles ). A aquaintance of mine,Cody Moya (entrepreneur extraordinaire) has this great book out, called Article Marketing Course, in which he tells us the marketing secrets that he used to create multi five-fugure cash profits each and every month. Then learn about how you can also use these secrets to grow your own profits - just like I have done.

Well, now onto that article I was talking about - hope you enjoy it and get as much from it as I did.

10 Eye Popping, Jaw Dropping Ad Copy Secrets
http://www.PlugInProfitSite.com/main-19587
1. Use a hand written letter on your ad copy instead of text. Write the ad on a piece of paper, scan it and publish the ad on your web page. Adding a personal touch will always increase your sales.

2. Publish a list of famous and respected customers who have bought from you on your a copy. People will think that if these people bought from you, they should also trust your business and purchase your products. Make sure to get their permission first.

3. Show before and after photos for your products on your web page copy. Show the problem picture and then beside it, show the picture of the resolution to the problem when they use your product.

4. Include an article or review that has been written about you or your business with your ad copy. This will show people that your business is respected and will increase your credibility.

5. When you offer free bonuses in your ad copy, also list the dollar value beside each bonus. People will feel they're getting a good deal and it will increase the value of your product.

6. Hire a famous person to endorse your product or service. Make sure the person is well known to your target audience. Include their picture and statements on your ad copy.

7. Include your own picture on your ad copy. This will show people that you're not hiding behind your ad copy and will increase their trust. Also, include your contact information below the picture and a brief statement or quote.

8. Tell your potential customers on your ad copy that you will donate a percentage of their purchase price to specific charity. This will show them you really care about the people. They may just buy your product to donate to the charity.

9. Ask your potential customers plenty of yes and no questions in your ad copy. The questions should remind them of their problem and make them think about what will happen if they don't purchase your product.

10. Tell your potential customers they will receive a free prize if they find the five words in your ad copy that are misspelled or spelled backwards. The longer you can keep someone reading your copy the greater chance of them purchasing.

Quote of the Day:
"I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness or ablities that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." -- William Penn

Sincerely,
Brian Stone
